About us
An independent decking company built around one county
Decking Cheshire started in 2009 with two carpenters, a van and a simple observation: almost every failed deck they were asked to repair had failed for the same three reasons. The frame had been built in contact with wet ground, the void beneath had no ventilation, and the joists had been set at 600mm centres to save timber. None of those faults are visible when a deck is new, and all of them are guaranteed to show within a few years.
Fifteen years on, we are still an independent, owner-run team, and we still build decks to the same specification we would use on our own homes. We do not subcontract labour. The person who surveys your garden and prices the work is one of the people who will build it, which removes the gap between what was promised and what turns up on the first morning.
Why we only work in Cheshire
Staying within one county is a deliberate choice. Cheshire has an unusual range of ground conditions for its size — boulder clay across the southern plain, sandstone through Frodsham, Helsby and Chester, historic brine-related movement around Northwich and Winsford, made ground in the industrial belt at Widnes and Warrington, and shallow rock on the eastern hills. Knowing which of those you are standing on before you start digging is the difference between a deck that stays level and one that does not.
Working locally also means we are never more than an hour from a deck we built. If something needs attention under the guarantee, we are there quickly rather than fitting you in around a job three counties away.
How we work
Every project starts with a free site survey: measurements, laser levels, threshold and damp proof course checks, and a look at what happens to surface water in heavy rain. From that we produce a setting-out plan and a fixed written quotation that spells out the substructure specification, board range and colour, foundation type, groundworks and waste removal. There are no per-metre guesses and no extras invented halfway through.
On site we work tidily, protect any route we cross, and clear up at the end of every day. Waste goes to licensed transfer stations with documentation available on request. Timber is FSC-certified and our composite ranges carry substantial recycled content. At handover you get warranty paperwork, electrical certification where lighting has been installed, and a one-page care sheet that takes two minutes to read.
Our guarantee
Workmanship and substructure are guaranteed for ten years. Composite boards carry the manufacturer's warranty, typically 20 to 25 years against fade, stain and structural defect. We are fully insured, including public liability, and we are happy to provide references from recent clients in your area — just ask when we visit.
